King
Kamehameha III Birthplace is near the head
of Keauhou Bay and was sacred to the
Kamehameha family. Here Keopuolani traveled
for Kohala by canoe to give birth to
Kauikeaouli, (Kamehameha III) stillborn, was
revived by Kamaloihi by placing him in the
water of Kaopa Spring at the edge of the
bay. Liholiho (Kamehameha II) built a
temple, Kamohoalii Heiau, which once stood
above the cliff, with hala and ula trees
planted nearby. It is said that a heiau
named Kaleiopapa anciently existed in the
this garden area. |
